About Microscopium

Microscopium is a minor constellation visible in the autumn sky of the southern hemisphere, first defined by the 18th century astronomer Nicolas de Lacaille. The graphical coordinates and map of the stars evoke images of both mathematics and the natural sciences. “MAST” suggests tall masts and sailing ships; ships that relied on the stars to help guide them, just as CalTeach/MAST programs support and guide future generations of teachers.
